Through the power of story, humans have passed on wisdom from generation to generation. Sometimes with exciting stories. Sometimes devastating stories. Sometimes funny stories. But always a story to share an experience and create common bonds.

Stories help build bridges among communities. Language is an universal way to share our dreams for the future with others.

How does change come about? Well, you can talk to those who already agree with you or yell at those who don’t. Or you can entertain people. Lectures and facts can push at people, making their minds fire with competing responses. But storytelling is a pull strategy inviting a wide variety of people to come closer. Sue’s performances can be pure fun or packed with meaning, either way they’ll be entertaining and memorable.

STORYTELLING WORKSHOPS include:

STORY POWER
A good story is a prerequisite to media coverage and a key to the public’s connection to your organization.
Information and statistics are not enough.
Award-winning professional storyteller, Susan O’Halloran, will show you how to find your organization’s stories and, then, make them come alive with sensory detail, captivating structure and, most of all, heart. Participants practice finding, drafting and polishing stories. You will leave the workshop with a “Who We Are” story you can use to pitch reporters, motivate volunteers, spread the word in your community or rally your organization’s morale.

How are we acted upon by the stories in our culture?
What stories ‘have’ us and what stories are we being told?

Democracy requires informed citizens who critically examine the information they receive. Yet, today, many of the underlying messages we hear go unexamined. In this workshop, we will analyze how the use of language controls the story and how we can use the power of story to influence political discussion and social change.
