Power of Story Workshop
Hello!
We met last December in an hour-long workshop called “Getting Your Message Out Through Story” at the 31st annual Case V Conference in Chicago.
Many of you expressed an interest in taking a longer Storytelling Workshop and I’m glad to announce that I will be teaching Wednesday, June 7th, in Chicago in conjunction with the Community Media Workshop Conference “Making Media Connections.”
Here’s all the information you’ll need…
THE STORY SEMINAR
Story Power – June 7, 2006 10 am-3 pm
Use stories to win allies, motivate your members and turn strangers (including the press) into supporters. What is your organization’s story? Information and statistics are not enough. Be noticed and remembered. Set your organization apart from the rest. This workshop is for communicators who are looking for innovative and effective ways to describe their work.(10 a.m. to 3 p.m., $99 for Case V includes box lunch)

LODGING
June is prime tourist season in Chicago and hotel rates can be high. I have an opportunity to secure rooms at the University Center at Congress and State, but I need to hear right away if there’s interest. These are step up from normal dorm rooms because they are “en suite.” You get a separate bedroom around a common living room, kitchen and bathrooms area. Cost would be app. $50 per night – much cheaper than Chicago hotels. The University Center is located at Congress and State in the South Loop, walking distance or a short bus ride (app. 5 blocks) to the conference. If you are interested in getting an “en suite” room, please indicate on your registration form. If several of you say “yes” I’ll move ahead with securing the rooms. I will inform you if the rooms are “a go” and email you instructions on booking them (probably through CMW).
PARKING
There is no one parking lot for the University Center or for Columbia College but many inexpensive (according to Chicago standards) parking lots in the South Loop.
MEALS
Box lunch comes with your fee of $99. When you register on line, please indicate if you need a vegetarian meal. Otherwise, box lunches tend to be the usual: turkey, tuna salad and such.

Making Media Connections is an exciting opportunity to talk with journalists and find out what stories get their attention. If you want to stay for the second day, Thursday, June 8th, you can choose from a number of panels and workshops.
